All applicants to Brigham Young University MUST agree to abide by the University Honor Code and receive an Ecclesiastical Endorsement in order for their application to be considered for admission.
The university expects that all students, regardless of religion, will maintain the behavioral standards of the school, including the Honor Code. These include high standards of honesty, integrity, chastity, morality, and dress and grooming, in addition to abstinence from alcoholic beverages, tobacco, tea, coffee, and substance abuse.
All students must be in good Honor Code standing and have a current ecclesiastical endorsement to be admitted to a BYU graduate program, and they must continue to abide by the Honor Code and Dress and Grooming Standards whether on or off campus while attending BYU. In addition, unless granted an exception, an applicant who is currently excommunicated, disfellowshipped, on probation with, or voluntarily disaffiliated from the Church is not admissible until reinstated to full fellowship in the Church.
Application for Exception: An individual wishing to apply for a graduate program who is currently excommunicated, disfellowshipped, on probation with, or disaffiliated from the Church may request an exception to this policy by completing an Application for Exception to Policy form, according to the procedures found in the University Admissions Policy.
LDS applicants need an ecclesiastical endorsement interview with a bishop and a stake president.
Non LDS applicants need an ecclesiastical endorsement from their local religious leader and a phone interview with the BYU Chaplain.
Continuing and currently enrolled BYU students applying for graduate school must also obtain a new endorsement. All applicants are encouraged to complete the Ecclesiastical Endorsement process well in advance of their respective graduate program application deadlines to prevent possible delays in being considered for admission.
Start this process at http://endorse.byu.edu.
*Note: Full time BYU employees applying for a graduate program must also obtain the admissions endorsement which includes a bishop and stake president interview and must also initiate this process through http://endorse.byu.edu
In the endorsement system (endorse.byu.edu)
- Click on 'Student' then ‘Applicant’. (Continuing/currently enrolled BYU students applying for graduate school must use ‘Applicant’. DO NOT select 'Continuing/Currently Enrolled’).
- You will be prompted to enter your BYU Net ID (or create one here before continuing)
- Read and commit to the University Honor Code and proceed to indicating your religious affiliation.
- The site will then guide you on the next steps to obtaining an endorsement interview.
**Non-LDS applicants in China should contact Graduate Admissions at (801) 422-7367 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org for interview assistance.
